Middle School Learning Strategist

Kent School, an independent day school located on the bank of the Chester River in historic Chestertown, Maryland serving children in Preschool through Grade 8, seeks a full-time Middle School Learning Strategist. The ideal candidate should love working with children in Grades 5-8 and can work cooperatively with the Middle School faculty and Lower School Learning Strategist. This position reports directly to the Assistant Head of School for Academics.

Salary Range: $40,000 - $50,000
Responsibilities include:

Students' Academic Support and Intervention 
  • Planning lessons and preparing materials for daily instruction to small group classes as well as individual support
  • Designing learning activities to promote intellectual and creative growth
  • Providing academic support for students within their core subject classes to strengthen their executive functioning and academic skills
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students and parents
  • Creating a fun and safe learning environment
  • Other duties as assigned
Teacher Support 
  • Working in collaboration with teachers to develop or modify curricular materials to meet student needs
  • Working in collaboration with Middle School teachers to provide support for students 
    • Co-teach to provide accommodations support for students
    • Guide teachers on best accommodations, assessment techniques,  and appropriate strategies for student support 
    • Provide regular updates to Middle School teachers on student progress 
    • Observe, monitor, and record those teachers who have implemented suggested strategies and perform periodic data reviews to determine whether to continue, update, or discontinue those student strategies.
Parent and Community Support 
  • Communicate with families regarding learning and academic support 
Administrative Responsibilities 
  • Working in collaboration with the Assistant Head of Academics to develop and maintain student support plans, outside support and/or evaluations 
  • Maintaining records and notes of student progress
  • Conducting student academic evaluations for the admissions process 
  • Develop Individual Student Success Plans for eligible students.
Qualifications:
  • Passion for the School’s mission
  • Three to five years of teaching experience in Middle School education
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent listener and skillful communicator
