What type of school is Kent School?

We are a coed, independent, Preschool through Grade 8 day school. We serve children from age three through elementary and middle school grades from throughout the Mid-Shore region of the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Queen Anne’s County and Kent County including but not limited to Chestertown, Centreville, Kent Island, Worton, Galena, Millington, Kennedyville, Cecilton, and Church Hill.

Kent School is non-denominational.

Our current enrollment is 154 students.

Does Kent School offer transportation?

Yes, Kent School has two 14 passenger vans. There is a Northern Route starting in Galena and a Southern Route starting in Queenstown. There is an additional fee for van service.

What are the school hours?

Our academic day begins at 8:20 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. After School care is available Monday through Thursday until 5:00 p.m.

Do you have after school care? Before school care?

Yes. After school care is provided and runs from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Middle School students may arrive as early as 8:00 a.m. Lower School and Little School students may arrive as early as 8:15 a.m.

Is there Tuition Assistance or other scholarships?

Yes, Kent School awards nearly $400,000 in tuition assistance annually. Over 40% of Kent School families receive assistance. The average award is approximately $8,000.

Are there additional fees required?

Yes, but they are limited.

Kent School’s tuition is inclusive. We provide books, supplies, yearbooks, and cover the costs of most field learning trips. We also provide laptops for student use in Grades 4 through 8 and have iPads available to students in K – 3

Are the books supplied by the school?

Yes, Kent School’s tuition is inclusive of fees and books.

What security measures are in place?

There is an electronic gate at the entrance of Kent School’s campus. It is closed during the academic day. Visitors use a call box to notify the front desk and the gate is opened when we confirm the guest.

All front facing doors are closed and locked during the academic day. The campus is equipped with security cameras.

Are there after school activities?

In addition to After School Care, Kent School has an auditioned  Chorus for students in Grades 4  through 8 as well as three seasons of interscholastic athletics for students in Grades 5 through 8. Kent School also offers “pop-up” clubs that occur during the year. There are also opportunities for music lessons and tutoring based on teacher availability.

Are lunches available?

Kent School does not have a cafeteria. Students bring a packed snack, lunch and refillable water bottle each day. The Kent School Parents Association does offer a monthly Pizza Lunch as an organization fundraiser.

Is there a school counselor?

Yes, Kent School employs a full-time School Counselor who is responsible for creating and executing our Social Emotional learning curriculum across all grade levels. Our Counselor also provides support for students individually or in small groups.

Can Kent School provide academic support?

Yes, our Learning Strategists offer support to students in one-to-one situations, small groups or in classrooms. Our goal is to provide strategies for success. 

Does Kent School offer interscholastic athletics?

Yes, students in Grades 5 through 8 have the opportunity to play on our athletic teams. We offer field hockey and soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter and lacrosse in the spring. Our teams compete against other area schools and rec programs.

Are there opportunities for parent involvement?

Yes, The Kent School Parents Association is very active in the life of the school planning many cherished school events. There are many ways to volunteer. Each Kent School family pays  annual dues which fund these special events.
